Are guns really this important ?

And ownership of this tool is protected by the Constitution.

Also, this tool is used by the military to protect this country and guarantee your right to vomit stupidity every single day.

I guess guns work okay when they protect you.
That does not mean regulation is not needed

What is this situation not in scope ?
Oh I see. Not in scope because as you say a certain type of gun can literally not do a goddamn thing other than sit where it is until such time as an individual takes an action, such as picking it up, loading it, pointing it at somebody, pulling the trigger

So your comment is more appropriately framed as follows these active shooter drills and so forth aren't to defend against the gun because it's sitting inanimate somewhere. These active shooter drills and so forth need to take place because crazy motherfuckers are left free to roam the Earth and express their anger through their use of guns, because their parents gave two shits about them as they were growing up.

Excuse me? Who is suggesting there should be guns at schools? Currently (IN PROBABLY EVERY STATE IN THE UNION) guns are NOT permitted in schools, mostly because one has to be 18 years old to be able to buy certain guns.

You're just blaming guns for some animal's choice, just like other idiots blame the SUV when some animal deliberately plows one into a crowd of white people.

And you wonder why everybody says liberals are such idiots.
@Colorforms seemed to be proposing that schools not be gun free zones.

Neither do opiates, but poor regulation from our govt killed of that inanimate substance even more people than guns do now.
You will note that our nation’s drug policies are loosening, not tightening. Where I live, all drugs have been decriminalized. You seem to be chasing state clampdowns on rights (albeit selectively, as always).

And certain types of guns are meant to shoot and kill people in mass numbers.
Maybe they should not be something every gun owner can have.

Maybe that's true. I don't really disagree with that.
The fact of the matter remains, and is absolute, in that a gun left untouched can do nothing on its own. It is an inanimate object until somebody applies an action to it

Just curious. What is it this week that you want to ban from the law abiding? What is the acceptable potential victim death count for you? Not 30, obviously…so is it 20? This time, you aren’t talking about an AR-15. It’s a handgun, right? So now what? No magazines with capacity greater than 10? 6? What ?

Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the country and it is not a gun free zone.
Schools are not gun free zones, and they never were. Resource officers always carry guns. (They are deputy sheriffs working school duty.)
In idiotic blue state districts, a lot of students carry guns just because their ignorant Democrat parents don't give a rat's ass.
Personally, I'd have no problem with teachers being allowed to pack.
Of course, in a place like Polk County, FL, gun culture is extreme. Almost the entire county is armed. And you NEVER hear of school shootings here. Probably that's because Polk County has something that trumps unconstitutional gun laws. It's called PARENTS WHO DO THEIR FCKKING JOBS AND RAISE THEIR LITTLE BRATS.

Criminalization and regulation are two different things.
Drugs are regulated. You can't just stop by your local drugstore and buy what ever is behind the counter.

I have said for years that semiautomatic weapons should be treated under the law just like automatic weapons.

No packing teachers are a bad idea.
Keeping track of an easily reached firearm and a class full of student is good mix.

There is no CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to buy prescriptions. There are no amendments saying the right to use opiates SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

Boys and girls, mainstream conservatives (contrary to many LIES from the left) are not opposed to REASONABLE gun regulation.

1. We believe convicted felons should not be allowed to own firearms. (Or vote, for that matter.) That's reasonable.

2. We believe minors should not be permitted to buy firearms. That's reasonable.

3. We believe that crimes committed WITH guns should carry automatically higher penalties. (something liberals have blasted ever since we came up with the idea.)
One of the more conservative Bush brothers (Well Jeb was a great conservative Florida governor, but he swerved way to the left when running for the presidency) signed into law Florida's 10-20-LIFE bill. Carry a gun to a crime, TEN YEARS mandatory sentence. Fire that gun during a crime, TWENTY YEARS mandatory sentence. Hit someone with that fired bullet, LIFE mandatory sentence.

That's reasonable. Of course, pantywaist liberals HOWLED at that law. But it did cut down on crime in this state, and that was after many years of Democrats controlling the legislature and the Governor's office.

4. We believe that if honest, law abiding citizens should fear for their lives every time they walk down a dark street, then criminals who would mug old ladies should have to fear for their lives, that they might come upon someone with a concealed carry license and enough firepower to blow them away.

That's reasonable. Anything else is unreasonable and UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
