Income, meanwhile, dropped across an array of metrics. Real median household income declined by 2.3% from $76,330 to $74,580, while real median earnings of all workers dropped 2.2%. While it's no question that raising kids can be an expensive procedure, that in itself is not the only reason that poverty has increased. People got too comfortable living on the extra monies that the gov't provided for a couple of. years. As it became possible for them to go to work many of them decided it was more comfortable not to. Instead of using that money to square away their living situation, many of them treated themselves to niceties.

I do understand the kid thing. When my ex and I split he became a dead bead dad and I spent 10 years feeding, clothing and housing 4 kids with almost no help from anybody. It was rough but I never took a penny of welfare. You have to work hard and smart.
