The inquiry doesn't require "proof of a crime." While there is no "proof" of a crime, there is a pretty substantial circumstantial case. They needed to do this because they have been blocked from getting the bank records, which are needed to provide the proof of the alleged crimes. If the Bidens have nothing to hide they should provide their bank records voluntarily.

Why so narrow? And how do we know without their bank records? And why didn’t we see you deplorables demanding that Trump and his family cough up their banking records despite their doing billions of business with the world’s most unsavory countries?

Trump is the single most investigated and prosecuted POTUS in history. The idea that the stuff you refer to here wasn't thoroughly investigated already is just silly. And if they had found anything you know as well as I do that he and his entire family would already be behind bars.

Trump had the top leaders of 3 branches of government running interference for him. That he was still investigated almost as tenaciously as Clinton, Obama, or Biden is testimony to his continual criminality.

Despite the protests from our resident useful Idiots, what sticks about this entire thing are the 17 shell companies that were set up by the Biden Family while he was Vice President, with money being funneled through the family and the over (at last count) 150 red flags by financial institutions regarding all of this. Joe Biden has been selling access to the US Government since at least 2015, and every bit of information that has come out since the 1023 has only backed up the allegation that Biden was bribed to fire Shokin.
If you are not going to launch a impeachment inquiry over something like this then you may as well just remove it from the Constitution.
I mean hell, they impeached the last guy for asking the Ukrainians about all of this, thus proving how rampantly corrupt the Dems are and the people who support them.

Actually, there clearly was not. There were, of course, various "contacts" between Trump campaign officials and "Russians" - not a single one of which was in any way illegal. The "back channel communications?" Not real. Even the vaunted "Trump Tower meeting" with Natalia Veselnitskaya? Not illegal. The "Facebook bots?" Yeah I guess you could make a case that those were crimes, even if they did nothing to move the needle wrt the election. But there is no "proof" that there was any role of any Trumpie in that. Funny you have nothing, and you try to make it something, while taking something (wrt Biden corruption) and make it nothing...like a hack!

The Trump family has about 500 companies that range from LLCs to S and C corporations. If the companies set up by Hunter or Jim Biden are evidence of a crime...is the same thing true of the Trump family?
What you call a "red flag" is automatically triggered by large transfers (over $10k the last time I went to a class on money laundering)...it would also happen if an account that typically had small deposits would suddenly get a number of larger ones...say 10 deposits of $1k each...or if the deposit came from a number of nations that do not comply with international banking laws...SARS..."Suspicious Activity Report"...
If the compliance department of the bank determines there is something suspicious then a report is generated and sent to several federal agencies.
Ken Starr investigated Clinton for 6 years and spent $60 million bucks.
Trump inc, was found guilty of tax evasion....
Trump is currently facing four indictments for a total of about 90 felonies.
