You guys should pass a law restricting any POTUS from leaving the DC metro area without a hall pass from Drudge.
It is a lot of money, but the figure includes items folks don't know are part of the expenses. It also places blame on Obama for items he has no control over. Camp David costs 8 million a year...and that is budgeted on the POTUS expense sheet. Doesn't matter if he ever goes there or not. Yes, additional costs incur when it it used, but W used it frequently. There was zero outrage from the right. It pisses me off when what could be a bipartisan reform effort is turned into a piece of cheap partisan theatrics. If we, the people, think $1.4 billion is too much (and it sure seems to be, to me) then change the figure, going forward. Set it at, say $500 million, indexed to inflation, starting in 2015 (to allow for any long-term plans already made) and be done with it. But don't use it as a petty opportunity to jab at a particular politician, especially when all indications are he's been an improvement on that front.
One of the perks of the job Lesli, or should we say one of the requirements of the job to have to take these people with them.Obama Returns to Hawaii at an Added Cost of Over $3 Million

Air Force One is known to cost about $180,000 an hour to fly. Based on an estimated 18 hours roundtrip flying time for the jet between Washington and Honolulu, the travel cost alone of Obama’s decision to return to Hawaii amounts to around $3.24 million. And that doesn’t include the price tag for the massive security operation required to move the president or the cost of the cargo plane that follows Air Force One around.
A $7,000,000.00+ vacation on our dime.
No, the hall pass should be required simply to leave the WH grounds. Those bulletproof SUVs suck a lot of taxpayer gas! ;-)You guys should pass a law restricting any POTUS from leaving the DC metro area without a hall pass from Drudge.
I'm thinking using Southwest would be fiscally prudent for the president and his entourage. Free peanuts and Rapid Reward points as a bonus. Bags fly free too!One of the perks of the job Lesli, or should we say one of the requirements of the job to have to take these people with them.
What do you think he should do, lay off all the SS and fly standby?
We know GWB did that didn't he?
Hell...the DC Metro is just 3 blocks from the WH...No, the hall pass should be required simply to leave the WH grounds. Those bulletproof SUVs suck a lot of taxpayer gas! ;-)
She yanked the number out of her butt, or someone on Breitbart did it for her. CNN reported last night that it was around a million round trip, but that includes a ton more than fuel. It's security, maintenance, crew.. everything, and the damn thing costs about half that when it's doing nothing but sitting.Such bvllshit. Your link doesn't work, and I was looking for who said it cost $180,000 an hour to fly Air Force One. That is absolute bullshit. Over a million dollars to fly to Hawaii????? Maybe if you calculate how many coach seats you can put on a 747, then multiply it by full price of a commercial flight from DC to Hawaii, then you can come up with some unreasonable number. That is typical of the way Republicans propagandize to their stupid minions.
Yeah, why couldn't that lazy black Kenyan feller have bought a ranch in Crawdad and spent 6 months out of the year there? You must admit it was thoughtless of him to have been born and raised in Hawaii.
They don't need fact-checkers 2wit. They'd rather operate on hunches and assumptions. More here, it's pricey but it goes with the territory. Funny, i remember LoC posters bitching about the ridiculous quantity of Bushie vacay time, but NEVER the cost of AF1. Remember Pickles and the Twins went on several Africa and Euro jaunts which they TOTALLY forgot about. ;-)Factcheck.org has the full scoop and where that figure came from. It was posted in a blog.

Oh where was the outrage...where oh where...Factcheck.org has the full scoop and where that figure came from. It was posted in a blog.

Yep, my recollection is that plan A was a slightly better deal for Pugs. Ah well, we'll just throw the cost of the extra AF1 R/T trip onto the 19 billion their last debt ceiling hostage-take cost.Boehner and House Repubs shoulda took Plan A when it was offered. They caused Pres. Obama to have to fly back to DC. You guys need some new outrage material. That well turned out to be a dry hole.
Drudge pulls the strings....makes the marionettes dance. You guys should pass a law restricting any POTUS from leaving the DC metro area without a hall pass from Drudge.
